Northern Sardinia can be easily reached in a bit more than one-hour flight from Milan. Olbia-Costa Smeralda international Airport has direct flights from several europeas cities as well.
Olbia and mainland Italy are connected by car-ferries – about 7 to 10 hours from Livorno or Civitavecchia or Genova

If we prefer to explore the region we can rent our car directy at Olbia airport and keep it for some days.
Most resorts require however a minimun stay during summer season – even up to 1 week in august - in this case we can choose a place and take some day-trips to discover both famous and beautiful hidden locations.

Porto Rotondo is famous for its shopping, nightlife and exclusive clubs. In summertime it is quite easy to see VIPs strolling around the port area. The Marina of Porto Rotondo is one of the biggest in the area with around 800 moorings for boats and yachts. Costa Smeralda (Emerald Coast) area is where we can find most of the exclusive places ever.

Porto Cervo is another “must see”.
In the past sixties, Saudi Prince Aga Khan, deeply fascinated by the sea and the surrounding area, bought a portion of this land and decided to build a new “town” set in an impressive natural cove. To realize his dream he did not call any architect, he chose a scenographer, as he wanted to blend the new buildings with the surrounding natural environment.

Most buildings here are exclusive and dedicated to a VIP clientele, with luxury accommodations only.
Since that time Porto Cervo has always been a myth. Most tourists flock in the area just to say “I’ve been there”.

Noteworthy is the Stella Maris church, which stands out for its modern architecture. It was designed in perfect Mediterranean style.
Its rounded and sinuous lines make this place of worship very unique and from the top of the hill we reveal a gorgeous view of the bay and the marina.

Our road trip goes on along the coast where we can stop to many different beaches: the challenge is to find the most secluded ones to enjoy a very private encounter with nature.
Isuledda, Cannigione, Capo d’Orso are only a few of the amazing places and beaches we can visit.

We head now to Palau to start our discovery of the incredible Maddalena Archipelago.
La Maddalena isle is the biggest of the archipelago with about 60 islands and islets.
It is mainly formed by granite rock, mostly covered with Mediterranean scrub and offers plenty of silent coves and dream beaches: Spalmatore, Cala Francese, Nido d’Aquila and Punta Tegge and many others.

For a long time it has been a base of the Italian Navy, which is witnessed by the naval museum Nino Lamboglia.

Not to be missed a visit to the parish church of Santa Maria Maddalena hosting a crucifix donated by Admiral Nelson before the battle of Trafalgar, in 1805 and from here straight to the enchanting port of Cala Gavetta, one of the most fascinating maritime glimpses.

La Maddalena is connected to Caprera island, another gem of the archipelago.
Caprera was home in his last years, to Giuseppe Garibaldi, italian general and patriot who played a decisive role in the italian unification and creation of the Kingdom of Italy, in 1861.
Garibaldi is also known as the “hero of the two worlds”.
The island is a natural reserve and among the beaches we find Cala Coticcio, named the “Sardinian Tahiti” for its crystal clear waters and the impalpable white sand.

To complete the tour of the Maddalena archipelago, the private isle of Santo Stefano hosts a nice resort hidden in the nature, facing a natural bay with breathtaking multi-colour turquoise waters. Astonishing!

From La Maddalena port we can spend a day sailing around the Maddalena archipelago with many tiny islands. We can swim, do snorkelling or diving to fully enjoy the beautiful colours of those waters.
Budelli Island has the famous Spiaggia Rosa, the Pink Beach, thanks to the colours of its granite rocks.
For wild beaches lovers, Spargi island is a must!
